yuhang district recently unveiled the results of its first comprehensive biodiversity survey.

in november 2022, a team of nearly 200 researchers from seven scientific research institutions, including the chinese academy of environmental planning and beijing forestry university, was commissioned to conduct a comprehensive survey and assessment of biodiversity across the region.

over the course of a year-long investigation, yuhang not only unveiled its "bio-assets" but also made numerous new discoveries.

a total of 2,206 species across various groups, including terrestrial higher plants, terrestrial mammals, birds, amphibians and reptiles, were discovered and recorded in yuhang. moreover, the district identified 16 types of wild and urban plant communities. some had never before been sighted in china, including suillus flavidus, also known as slim jack.

"the survey is akin to a 'census' of the natural world. with over 126.43 kilometers of survey lines and more than 28,000 electronic specimen photos and videos collected, we now have a clear understanding of the biodiversity in the region, laying a foundation for future conservation efforts," said a spokesperson from yuhang.
