hangzhou launched its first batch of 800 child-friendly parent-child shared bikes on july 22 across shangcheng, xihu, yuhang, and binjiang districts.
this summer, the city plans to replace 1,500 regular shared bikes with new ones, which are operated by hellobike, meituan bike, and qingju bike. the rental process and fees for the new bikes are the same as standard ones, and they include complimentary child insurance.
the newly introduced parent-child bikes focus on safety, child-friendliness, and environmental protection. according to a spokesperson from the hangzhou urban management bureau, the bikes feature high-strength aluminum alloy welded seats suitable for children under 30 kilograms. the seats come with a five-point harness similar to child safety seats for cars, child foot guards, and a 360-degree protective handrail. the materials used are rust-resistant and waterproof to ensure durability and safety.
the initiative aims to meet the high demand for parent-child travel in hangzhou, especially in the city's tourist areas.
the new bikes address safety concerns previously raised by parents who would place their children in the baskets of regular shared bikes. this move is expected to improve the travel experience for both residents and tourists while enhancing safety and reducing traffic congestion around popular attractions.
